Low Carb Chicken Recipes Find Maple Mustard Glazed Chicken

This low carb chicken recipe originally came from a cooking magazine recipe. The original used boneless chicken, but this version uses bone in chicken to add more flavor. It takes under 40 minutes to prepare and cook. It’s simple and flavorful enough to try. It came for a pretty cool website. Check it out.

Duke’s Jim Beam Bourbon Glaze Steak Strips

I’ve written in a few past post like this one and this one about beef jerky style snacks. Beef jerky are one of the types of low carb snacks I eat while I’m on the go. I may not eat them often because they carry a fairly high amount of sodium usually ranging between 250 to 380 milligrams per serving. However, I am of the opinion that having snacks like these once in a while isn’t such a big deal unless you have some sort of medical or dietary condition pertaining to sodium levels.

So I happen to come across yet another one. This one is made by Duke’s House Of Meats. The flavor is called Jim Beam Bourbon Glaze Steak Strips. It seems Duke’s House Of Meats and Jim Beam, the very popular bourbon brand have collaborated to bring this snack to reality. I found it at a grocery store for the cost of 4 Dollars and 69 Cents. A tad too high of a price in my opinion.

Ingredients & Nutritional Info

Each bag of Duke’s Jim Beam Bourbon Glaze has only one serving which carries 6 grams of fat, 8 grams of carbohydrates with 5 coming from sugar, and 12 grams of protein. Sodium is 380 milligrams per serving.

The ingredients are: beef, water, dextrose, brown sugar, molasses, salt, worcestershire sauce, sugar, spices, tamarind, monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed soy protein, garlic, citric acid, natural smoke flavor, sodium nitrate, and Jim Beam Bourbon.

Taste

The flavor is slightly sweet. The jerky strips have a hint of sweetness infused really well with the meat strips. The meat is soft and chewy unlike any other jerky snacks I’ve had. The beef strips are very tender for a jerky snack. Come to think of it, these were very easy to eat. Out of all the beef jerky brands I have tried, Duke’s Jim Beam Bourbon Glaze is my favorite for now.

Conclusion

So by far the best I have tried. There is no doubt it. However, I have a major gripe, and that is the price and size of the bag. I hope people may be able to find it a whole lot cheaper than what I found it for ($4.69). This product is way overpriced. It’s a shame because it really is delicious and truly stands out. However you get so little beef strips in one bag in comparison to what you are paying for. Will I buy Duke’s Jim Beam Bourbon Glaze Steak Strips again? Yes but maybe not that often. Oh well maybe it’s all for the better since having snacks with high amounts of sodium isn’t always the ideal, but remember this is a low carb snack and can be at times a better choice than other types of snacks. The key thing to remember is: at times.

Update

I just did a bit more searching for this product online. I happened to find Duke’s Jim Beam Bourbon Glaze Steak Strips for a 1.50 a pack at Amazon.com  Here’s a link at the bottom through my affiliate if your’re interested.

Cheeky Monkey Peanut Butter Puffs

This is a weird low carb snack but a good one. It’s called Cheeky Monkey Peanut Butter Puffs. Now bare with me. Can you imagine a typical bag of cheese puffs. You know, those really cheesy airy snacks like the popular brand Cheetos. Okay so this low carb snack is much like that except instead of cheese it’s peanut butter. You may think how can this be in a low carb snack category, but it truly is. Cheeky Monkey Peanut Butter Puffs comes from Israel form a company called Hasadeh Organic. It was found at a local grocery store in New York City for two Dollars.

Nutritional Breakdown

So like I said this is truly a low carb snack. Cheeky Monkey Peanut Butter Puffs comes in a medium sized bag that contains 3 servings. Each serving is only 98 calories. There are 8 grams of fat, 10 grams of carbohydrates, with 2 grams of dietary fiber, and 3.5 grams of protein per every serving. This is a pretty good macro nutrient profile for a snack. It meets my criteria of carbohydrates being under 15 grams. The protein and fat content makes sense as well since the main ingredient is peanut butter.

Ingredients

Pretty simple; organic peanut butter, organic corn, organic palm oil, and salt. As you may have guessed, this is an organic and gluten free snack as well. It has also been certified organic and gluten free by a company called Agrior.

My Take On It

It’s good. Just as you would imagine cheese puffs but instead with peanut butter. The puffs are airy and light. The taste of peanut butter is evident but not too much. I think the best thing about this low carb snack is the nutritional profile and the fact that it’s an all natural snack. Think about it; the whole bag only carries a total of 30 grams of carbohydrates. That’s pretty impressive for an on the go snack. My only problem with this snack is that it’s hard to find. Your best bet is to probably buy them online, but If you’re like me, it’s just something you wouldn’t often do. Yet Cheeky Monkey Peanut Butter Puffs are ideal snacks for anyone following a low carb diet plan.

Low Carb Snacks – SnackMasters Ahi Tuna Jerky

DSC01285 w550 h550 e1327767868258 Low Carb Snacks SnackMasters Ahi Tuna Jerky

SnackMasters Ahi Tuna Jerky

I’ve written in a past post about beef jerky snacks. I just picked up a unique jerky snack that I thought was one of the most unusual low carb snacks I’ve come across yet. Can you imagine tuna as a jerky style snack? I could not, yet here it is; SnackMasters Ahi Tuna Jerky. When I saw  and read the packaging, I think I said to myself, “What a weird idea”.

 Information

All right so I purchased one package of Ahi Tuna Jerky for about 8 Dollars. The net weight is about 2 ounces. The nutritional profile has two servings per package. Each serving carries 0 grams of fat, 5 grams of carbohydrates, and 14 grams of protein. The sodium content is 540 milligrams per serving. The ingredients are: solid fillet of ahi tuna, water, soy sauce (which is water, soy bean, wheat, salt) natural liquid smoke, sugar, black pepper, onion & garlic

The Taste

It’s weird. I’m not sure whether I like it or not. One thing is for sure, it takes a long time to chew on these pieces of jerky. It’s also quite dry compared to beef jerky, and beef jerky in general is a dry snack. You’ll need to drink a lot of fluids with this snack. I can taste the tuna, and soy flavor for sure. It does taste pleasant but I had a fishy aftertaste in my mouth afterwards. It is however normal to have any kind of aftertaste after eating jerky style snacks. Yet It was an uncomfortable aftertaste.

Conclusion

For me, It wouldn’t be a snack I would normally buy because it was hard to get used to tuna as a jerky snack flavor. Also, the whopping price of 8 Dollars for a over 2 ounce bag was not good. That’s about twice the cost for the same package amount of beef jerky. Maybe because it’s tuna rather than beef? I don’t know, and It’s still too high of a price. Although these are low carb snacks, many people may not find these to be as healthy compared to other types of snacks due to the high sodium content. I agree with that notion. However they still are in my opinion a viable choice as a low carb snack. Just eat them sparingly. Although I couldn’t get used to the taste, many people may really like these. The tuna taste is there, and at the very least it’s something different to try.

DSC01278 w550 h550 Low Carb Snacks The Protein Bakery Black And White Brownie.

The Protein Bakery Black And White Brownie

Last Saturday night I went to see a movie. I rarely buy anything except water or a diet soda at a concession stand, but I saw something that stood out. I saw a brownie tightly packaged in a clear plastic with a label that read The Protein Bakery. Hmmm… okay, so being as I am looking for guilty free low carb snacks to eat, I purchased one. I did’n eat it at the movie theater but I’d figure it would be interesting to eat and review it some other time. A day later, I tried it.

But first let me give you a bit more information on this brownie. The company is called The Protein Bakery. The name of the brownie I purchased is called a Black And White Brownie. I think it’s called that because there are bits of white chocolate chips and semi sweet chocolate chips mixed into the brownie. It cost me about about six dollars which I thought is way too pricey, but maybe it’s because I bought it in a movie theater.

Ingredients

The Black and White Brownie is made up of light brown sugar, butter, eggs, chocolate liquor, whey protein, oat flour, semi sweet chocolate chips, anhydrous dextrose, soy, lecithin, vanilla extract, white chocolate chips, nonfat dry milk,, pure vanilla extract, salt, baking powder.

Nutritional Info

Okay So many of you may be thinking ” How can a brownie be a low carb snack?” Well guess what? This one is.
Look at the nutritional facts: 1 serving is 290 calories with 21 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbs with 8 of those coming from sugar, and 11 grams of protein. Cholesterol 100 mg, sodium 160 mg, and 4 grams of fiber.
Not a bad nutritional profile for a brownie right. The only concern for me is the fat content. 21 grams of fat. oooh! That’s a bit high, but hey it’s a brownie. I can deal with the fat content high than with the sugar or carbohydrate content being high.

And Now For The Taste

One word; Amazing. It’s moist, chewy, and chocolaty. Not so chocolate though, just enough to say this is a brownie you are eating. The white chocolate chips are evident when you bite into this low carb sweet. As I recall the white chips give a bit of contrast in terms of tastes that are in your mouth. Then there is the fact that all this rich taste has 11 grams of high quality protein in it. I was so impressed. I’ve tried brownies, and this can go toe to toe with other brownies whether they are healthy or indulgent this brownie has supreme taste going for it. I couldn’t recommend this enough.

Low Carb Snacks – The Good Bean Chili Lime

The Good Bean

Happy New Year everybody!. I’m back to talk about a new low carb snack i found a couple of days ago. It’s called the good bean. It’s manufactured and distributed by the good bean, llc. Now this is really unusual. It’s an all natural roasted chickpea snack. yea I know that’s a bit odd. I really appreciate when new small companies come out with innovative healthy low carb snacks. These chickpea snacks come in a funky creative package. The Good bean brand comes in four flavors; Sea Salt, Smoky Chili Lime, Cracked Pepper, and Sweet Cinnamon I purchased the chili lime flavored one as it was the only one I found. It cost me 2 dollars at a local grocery store.

DSC01265 r100 w550 h550 Low Carb Snacks The Good Bean Chili Lime

Info

So let me give you a bit of the background on this snack. The nutritional profile has two servings per package with each serving carrying 23 grams of carbohydrates with 5 grams of sugar, 7 grams of protein and only two grams of fat. It is a gluten free snack and all natural with no preservatives. it also has over 6 grams of high fiber wich is rare to see so much fiber in packaged snacks. Personally, I wouldn’t have categorized these as low carb snacks because the carb intake is a bit past my own criteria, but because there are only 5 grams of sugar per serving and so much fiber in a ready to eat snack, I can make the case for it being low carb.

DSC01267 r100 w550 h550 Low Carb Snacks The Good Bean Chili Lime

Okay So The Taste

Like I said, I purchased the smokey Chili lime chickpeas. When I poured some out of the bag, the chickpeas looked like small roasted pebbles. kind of a cereal like texture. Now I have to say up front that I am not a person who likes anything spicy. My tongue is pretty sensitive to any hot taste, even if it’s mild. But with that said, I didn’t mind this snack. I actually thought it was pretty good. It has a nice toasty look and crunch to them. I can taste a hint of the lime ,and the chili part starts creeping up on you taste buds after a few bites. They feel a bit dry but I mean that in a good way. What I really like about them though is how my appetite was suppressed after a couple of handfuls of chickpeas in my mouth. Maybe my hunger pangs were gone because of the chili ingredients. Chili or hot spices have been known to curb appetites. As a matter of fact, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. The ingredients on the package it says its a mix of paprikia, chipotle chili, and lime. All of these ingredients have been known to help curb hunger. I am not certain how often I can find these again but they are unique and worth trying. so there you have it . If you’re into spicy low carb snacks give these a try. You might really enjoy these like I did , and i’m not even into hot stuff.
