Oloves
I would’ve never imagined packaging olives in a small plastic pouch. Well that’s exactly what I found at a local grocery store with a brand called Oloves. Oloves are one of the latest trends of low carb snacks that market vegetables as food to eat on the go. I have seen vegetables packaged before, but this one took me for a bit of a loop. For one, I’m not a big fan of eating olives, let alone packaged olives. Yet, I think the idea is very intruiging. So I decided to give these olives a try.
Info
Oloves come in a small palm-sized silver colored pouch, with an illustration of an olive in the front. The name of the company that produces Oloves is called Brand Stand from Switzerland. However, The Oloves brand are in Morocco. There are about 12 pitted green olives in each bag. I tried two flavors that were available; Light Hearted Vinaigrette, olives seasoned with a light Italian dressing, and Tasty Mediterranean, which is seasoned with basil and garlic. The nutritional profile for both flavors carries 40 to 50 calories total, with 4 grams of fat, 1.2 grams of carbohydrates and 0 grams of protien. The sodium is 120 mg. Personally, I’d label these snacks as zero carb foods because the grams of carbs are negligible. However, technically there are carbs here. I purchased each snack for 2 Dollars.
Taste
It’s funny how you can psychologically change you perception of food when you see or taste it in a different fashion. For me, the concept of packaging olives made me try it. So for the taste, I noticed the olives were really salty. They do seem fresh though. The packaging says that Oloves are preservative free. It’s no wonder that the olives are quite salty then. I guess that’s how they preserve them naturally. I’m still not a fan of olives, but fortunately, a friend of mine is an olive aficionado. I asked her to try these low carb snacks and critique them. This is what she had to say about them;
Tasty Mediterranean
Its delicious. It doesn’t taste like olives in a package, or bottle but more like the kind of fresh olives you would buy in a farmers market. I love the saltiness. It brings out more of the olive flavor.

Light Hearted Vinaigrette
Tangy. Too much vinaigrette for me. The taste of vinigrette is very strong, and takes away from the olive taste. This flavor is saltier than Tasty Mediterranean.

Oloves Light Hearted Vinaigrette
Although I don’t eat olives, I do appreciate finding new low carb snacks that push the envelope. The idea of now having olives to eat on the go is a clever one. From my friends perspective, she was very pleased with the taste of Oloves. She would buy and recommend them to anyone who enjoys olives as much as she does. If anyone comes across this brand, please let me know what you think.
